The City of Turku is announcing the winning entries of the Linnanniemi idea competition

“A series of events will bring up new perspectives on the unique Linnanniemi area”

In HUPMOBILE project City of Turku is working on the reorganisation of passenger rail transport in the port area. The surroundings of Turku Castle and the harbour are set to undergo a major redevelopment in the coming decades. Although the change will not be visible just yet, there is an extremely interesting and significant stage ongoing and shaping the future of the Linnanniemi (Castle Town) area.

The City of Turku is organizing a series of events at the turn of the month October/November 2020. These events are built around the Linnanniemi pop-up exhibition, which opens on Friday, October 30, 2020, on Kauppiaskatu 9a, Turku (Business space behind the Wiklund light yard) and would last till October 15.

The Linnanniemi international idea competition, held in the spring of 2020, collected a vast amount of competition proposals. On Thursday October 29, the results of the competition will be announced on an award ceremony that will be streamed live online. The very next day, a pop-up exhibition will open its doors to the public. The goal of the exhibition and its various side events is not only to get the residents of Turku acquainted with the Linnanniemi area and the successful entries of the international idea competition, but also to invite all visitors to share their ideas and own visions of the future of Linnanniemi. Everyone will be given an opportunity to voice their opinion on the competition entries and suggest how they could be further developed. This can be done either by visiting the pop-up exhibition, or online via Kerro kantasi (Voice your opinion) service.

In addition to the competition proposals, the pop-up exhibition will present the tentative Joint Port Area Master and Mobility Plan prepared within the HUPMOBILE project. The exhibition visitors can also find out what possible future solutions can support sustainable mobility in the area as well as the results of the survey conducted within the project by Aalto University on the mobility habits of residents. Moreover, the exhibition will have on display a contemporary documentation project by the Museum Centre of Turku .

The pop-up exhibition’s side events will include a neighbourhood hunt, guided tours around the Linnanniemi area and webinars, where experts from different fields will discuss Linnanniemi from various perspectives and the participants will have a chance to be a part of the conversation.

The City of Turku wants its residents to be a part of the joint development of Linnanniemi and invites everyone to participate!
